I’m bringing my taurus 24/7 pro 9mm pistol with a 4 inch barrel camping with me in an area that is not a state or national park. I’ve never hunted anything in my life but i’ve always wanted to try it and i think now might be a good time. will it be legal for me to shoot, say rabits, ducks, orother small animals? this is in the mountians of norther utah. Even if i cant hunt i’m still bringing the gun for unruley bears or people. Unfortunatly i dont own any sort of rifle, just my kel tec and this.
9mm may not be adiquite fore bears but it’s beter then my knife…

you need a hunting liscence to legally hunt animals unless you are doing so on your own land. also, a 9mm really isn’t an adequete caliber to defend yourself from bears. you’re a lot better off with a .44 magnum or at least a .357 magnun.
You need to get a hunting license. You’re not allowed to hunt without one unless it’s on your own land.
Your 9mm should be find for hunting rabbits and small game.
A 9mm isn’t going to defend you against a bear. Maybe it will scare the bear off, but it’s not gonna take it down if it comes after you.
You can only hunt game animals when they are in season.* You are under gunned for bear & people.* Get a 357 Magnum.* You will also need to buy a Hunting License.*
i dont think so not this time a year i dont know of anything in season but crows and groundhogs maybe wild pig but we dont have them here
Good answers so far but at least in Texas, even on your own land you need a State Hunting License to hunt. They’re reasoning is that game animals are State property. Go figure! None game animals such as feral hogs are an exception.

sorry, you can not carry a gun with you when camping unless you have a hunting license for any animal even for defense against Bear. Even though you are not in a national park or national recreation area. You must pass a hunters safety course to hunt and many states forbid hunting with a hand gun. Check your state’s DFG Dept. of Fish and Game for the laws and requirements. If you are caught hunting illegealy you can have all your gear confiscated including your gun, car, and camping gear.
If you have hunting license and if it is in season and the state lets you hunt with a pistol then yes.If there are black bear you need to unload at least a mag to stop it before it kills you. But brown bear probably 2 mags.
In Texas you will need a hunting license to hunt ANYTHING. Even if you are on your own property, even if there are no open or closed season, or bag limits. There are 3 exceptions in Texas, and the exceptions of all birds. The domestic (homing) peagon, brown headed cow bird, and European Starling.
H is wrong. Even if they are a non-game animal, feral hog (included) you will still need a hunting license even though you can hunt them any time of the year and kill as many as you wish.
1) You need a license to hunt.
2) The animal needs to be in season.
3) The season must be handgun season.
4) You need a carry permit.
